Chesterfield Road (Sookholme) Reinforcement Project
Cadent awarded Distributed Energy Connections (DEC) a significant contract to deliver a 3.7 km reinforcement gas main in Derbyshire. Secured through a competitive tender process, the project saw DEC install a 355 mm MDPE pipeline, reinforcing Cadent’s infrastructure from Chesterfield Road, through Pleasley Village, to an existing governor station.
The project’s complexity underscores DEC’s expertise, requiring coordination across two local authorities with differing licensing procedures and negotiations with third-party landowners for critical access. Extensive utility congestion, infrastructure constraints, and a vital bridge crossing further highlighted the need for precise planning and execution.
DEC implemented intricate traffic management in high-traffic areas, including multi-stage road closures, to minimise disruption for residents and commuters.
Regarding the contract, Ricky Rogers, Director at DEC, stated:
“We’re proud to have been recognised as the best bid and trusted to deliver this significant infrastructure project. Reinforcing Cadent’s network not only supports their operations but also aligns with the UK’s journey towards Net Zero by enhancing the resilience of our gas infrastructure. This achievement reflects our commitment to delivering projects of this scale with precision and care.”
The successful completion of this project has already yielded further opportunities for DEC. Cadent approached the company to undertake an additional reinforcement project.
This contract win further cements DEC’s position as a trusted partner in delivering vital infrastructure that supports the UK’s energy transition while minimising community disruption and maintaining infrastructure integrity.
