DEC has won the contract to supply an Intermediate Pressure gas connection to an exciting Energy Plant currently under construction in Irvine, Scotland.

The Oldhall Energy Recovery Facility will be commissioned in 2025; it will convert leftover waste from residential, commercial, and industrial sources into energy and produce up to 17 MW of electricity. This is sufficient to supply power to roughly 30,000 households.

The new Energy Recovery Facility will generate around 30 full-time positions when operational. Additionally, it can handle up to 180,000 tonnes of post-recycled waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill. This waste will be converted into low-carbon electricity.

Doveryard Limited owns and develops the plant, and the EPC contractor, STC Power Srl, a renowned company for constructing traditional and renewable-fuelled power plants around the globe, is currently building the Oldhall ERF. STC Power Srl will operate and maintain the site after commissioning.

The team has overcome the gas pipeline's challenges, including a directional drill of the main under a river crossing, and errors in network records leading to a revised point of connection.

The pipeline installed from POC was 412 meters and consisted of a 180mm diameter HDPE pipe jointed using butt fusion, terminating in an Intermediate Pressure Metered Reduction Station, which will supply gas at a maximum operating pressure of 5400 mbar.

DEC is responsible for the design, construction, and commission, including network liaison and connection licences. DEC has been awarded the work to design and construct the downstream network, acting as the clients ‘User’ to ensure they can meet industry standards for operating consumer pipe work above 2 bar in accordance with IGE/GL/5.

Ricky Rogers is a director of DEC
Doveryard is DEC’s second IP project in the last 12 months, and Ricky Rogers said of the project.

"This job has been so pleasing. Together with the client, we have faced difficulties, addressed them, and completed the design, supply and connection on time and according to the client’s directives.”
